Network Is Protecting Mayweather From Pacquiao
When Showtime boxing boss Stephen Espinoza said two weeks ago that Manny Pacquiao must leave Bob Arum to make a fight with Floyd Mayweather possible, it revealed the crux of the problem of why the biggest event in boxing history hasn't and won't be made any time soon.
Espinoza is clearly under the thumb of Al Haymon who manipulates the network and Golden Boy Promotions. "Al Haymon manipulates everything. What Al Haymon wants Al Haymon gets," said Pauly Malignaggi last year before his fight with Adrien Broner.
If Espinoza were his own man he would not accept and obey Haymon's directives demanding Manny Pacquiao to fire Arum and Top Rank and sign with Haymon, TMT or Golden Boy.
If Espinoza were his own man he would be the one telling Haymon and Mayweather it's time to finally force Mayweather to face Pacquiao. Because it's the biggest fight in boxing history.
But Espinoza is not his own man, for whatever reason or reasons. For some strange, curious reason(s), Espinoza takes his orders from Al Haymon and Floyd Mayweather, who we all know is adamantly intent on ducking Manny Pacquiao forever because he will not risk losing by brutal KO.
It's common knowledge in boxing circles that the Mayweather-Guerrero fight lost a lot of money, over $ l2,000,000 according to two sources I know. And it's common knowledge that Canelo Alvarez's popularity among Mexicans was the main reason for the success of the Mayweather-Alvarez fight although it did not sell up to Showtime's expectations and hopes.
Now Showtime, with three or four more fights left on its long term contract with Mayweather is stuck at a dangerous point. The network knows that a Mayweather-Khan fight is a very, very hard sell and it could very well be a financial disaster which loses mega millions like the Guerrero fight.
This is why it's so puzzling and confusing why Espinoza allows himself to be manipulated to play along with the Mayweather Haymon charade.
Espinoza seemingly has the power and influence to demand and force Mayweather and Haymon to lay it on the line vs. Pacquiao.
Oscar De La Hoya seems to be the only voice at Golden Boy who has any sense and integrity, as evidenced by his tweets expressing hope that the company in his name can work out a deal with Top Rank to make the fights the world wants to see.
But De La Hoya seems to be a minority voice being pushed aside by Haymon's puppets Espinoza and Schaefer who continue to show zero interest and zero respect for giving the world's boxing fans the only fight they really want to see. Manny Pacquiao vs. Floyd Mayweather.
It's a bloody shame Steve Espinoza and Showtime continue to protect, reward and shelter the greatest coward in boxing history, Floyd Mayweather Jr. And it's such a horrible insult and slap at the face of the money spending fans that payback time is rapidly approaching to the point where Showtime deserves to be boycotted and cancelled en masse for blocking the Pacquiao-Mayweather fight from becoming a part of boxing history.
