Tyson vs. Mayweather, May 2015
Al Haymon and Richard Schaefer want big money handpicked set ups for Floyd Mayweather, to package and market their "face of boxing" as the greatest pugilist to ever lace up the gloves.
Now that Bernard Hopkins is on board to play his role while receiving one final, huge payday, Al Haymon still has plenty of work to do, to keep the gravy train rolling. Haymon has to continue to fill up four more contracted Showtime pay per view dates with major marquee names. We know Manny Pacquiao, Tim Bradley and Ruslan Provodnikov are strictly OFF LIMITS and FORBIDDEN, not because of Bob Arum but because they are too dangerous and Al Haymon will never allow Floyd to lose, especially not to a fighter he can't control or manipulate.
So what can Haymon do after Hopkins plays his part in the Floyd Mayweather reality show? Chess players think two or three moves ahead. How can Haymon continue to manufacture his counterfeit superstar Floyd, via smoke and mirrors, into the greatest of all times?
Well of course, a logical step would be to bypass Golovkin, Martinez, and Ward and just move Floyd up to ... (don't laugh) light heavyweight. Heck, wait a minute, there's no money at light heavyweight, why not go all the way up to ... heavyweight. That's right, HEAVYweight.
It actually makes some sense. Floyd already performed against Big Show in the WWE, he showed he can handle the weight disadvantage.
A smart business decision would be to put Haymon's heavyweight bum Seth Mitchell to use. Mayweather vs. Mitchell makes sense if it makes dollars. Mayweather fans will surely eat that up and ask for more.
After the Mitchell test is passed, Floyd can move up in class and take on Butterbean (if Butterbean agrees to sign with Haymon and Mayweather Promotions).
Of course, if those terms are agreed to, Floyd will mash Butterbean and be ready for a title shot.
Since Wladimir Klitschko won't sign with Haymon or Mayweather Promotions, Haymon could be stuck. But wait a minute. I just got an idea. There's a viable and potentially very lucrative fight for Floyd at heavyweight...Richard Schaefer will tell us it could break all PPV records. This one will really get his promotional juices flowing. It could be the greatest event in boxing, WWE or UFC history, surpassing ten million buys.
Yes I'm talking about Floyd Mayweather vs. Mike Tyson.
Tyson supposedly needs the money and at five-feet-ten inches tall, Iron Mike is only a couple of inches taller than Floyd. And Tyson, 47, is a year younger than Hopkins. The Tyson name still sells, whether it's a reality show, Broadway show, cameo in Hollywood films, books, TV show appearances, Mike Tyson is still very much in demand.
A Mayweather-Tyson fight, in the wacky world of Al Haymon and his "Yes" man Richard Schaefer, makes all the sense in the world.
But of course, it will only be possible if Mike Tyson signs with Al Haymon and Mayweather Promotions. And you know what that means.
(This article was started off as complete sarcasm but if Haymon or Mayweather read it, don't be astonished if it ends up as reality.)
"Al Haymon manipulates everything. What Al Haymon wants Al Haymon gets." -- Paulie Malignaggi
"I don't love boxing like I used to because boxing isn't real anymore." --Floyd Mayweather
"Al Haymon is the best in the business." --Richard Schaefer.
