Ring Magazine Will Shut Down

By Scoop Malinowski

The Ring magazine was one of my earliest print outlets to sell my Biofile interviews as a newcomer in the media in 1992. Former editor Steve Farhood liked my Biofiles and hired me to do boxing biofile interviews for the monthly magazine, for $50 per biofile back in 1992. The first two biofiles to grace the pages of Ring magazine were of James Toney and Orlando Canizales. (Later “The Biofile” feature was moved to two other magazines published by the owner London Publishing – World Boxing (current boxers) and Boxing 92, 93, all the way to Boxing 2005 (legend boxers).

Now, after 100 years “The Bible Of Boxing” will be terminated.  The Ring will no longer produce monthly magazines, only the boxing web site will proceed in business.

It’s another sign that the popularity of professional prizefighting is decreasing while MMA and UFC continues to grow positively.

Boxing has floundered since the reign of the fraud face of boxing Floyd Mayweather, controlled by Al Haymon, ruined the integrity and honor of the sport with his lousy act of fake confidence, scripted lines, handpick opponents, ducking all high risk threats, to steal hundreds of millions of dollars from the public with “fights” that were disappointments.

After Mayweather departed the scene, the after effects are showing. The public is not as interested in seeing boring Mayweather type sparring sessions against handpicked opponents and business set ups, instead of against more threatening, dangerous challengers. The best against the best methodology was sacrificed and now the heavy price is being paid.

The trickle down effect is that the top fighters today only fight once or twice a year, typically against set ups and in house hired patsies. Subsequently, public demand to pay to see pro boxing has severely waned.

And public demand to read more info and details about boxing, from sources like the once respected Ring magazine, has also diminished. With The Ring now finished, there are no more boxing magazines produced in America, they have all gone down for the ten count.

Ring’s final issue will be in December 2022.
