The man just keeps on making major moves to revive the sport of boxing back into the ultimate sport on the planet.

Turki Alalshikh, head of Saudi Arabia’s General Entertainment Authority, announced on social media that he has acquired Ring Magazine and the legendary boxing monthly publication, founded in 1922 by Nat Fleischer, will return to return to newsstands in the United States and United Kingdom “immediately.” Oscar De La Hoya of Golden Boy Promotions, the previous owner of the magazine which he purchased for $7m confirmed the sale which was for $10m.

The Ring has not published a magazine for two years but has maintained an online web site.

“The magazine will be fully independent, with brilliant writers and focusing on every aspect in the sport of boxing,” Alalshikh’s reported on his social media channels. “We will restore the legacy of The Ring Rankings to its old mechanism with a fully independent panel that lives up to the Ring Magazine’s golden era.”

Alalshikh also revealed plans for an “extravagant” annual awards ceremony and the digitization of the Ring’s  gargantuan archives which date over a century.

“The Ring Magazine will be a fully independent company without any involvement from Riyadh Season,” His Excellency emphasized. “In the end, let’s get ‘the Bible of Boxing’ to heights that it has never seen in the past.”

It is expected that Dougie Fischer will maintain his post as editor-in-chief of The Ring.
