De La Hoya Slams Haymon For Ruining Boxing

By Scoop Malinowski

Everybody with half a functioning frontal lobe knows Al Haymon is impossible to deal with, impossible to persuade to match one of his key assets into a high risk fight vs a top fighter he doesn’t control. Al Haymon prefers to keep his name fighters all under in-house control, matched only against controlled opponents or hired patsies and divers.

Oscar De La Hoya has given up on trying to match his fighter Ryan Garcia vs Haymon’s Gervonta Davis. Haymon has completely stonewalled against any negotiations to match Davis vs Garcia.

“Any Al Haymon guy is going to be a problem to make [a fight] because of Al Haymon,” De La Hoya said. “But I’m gonna try and make the best fights possible. I’m bringing you guys [Dmitry] Bivol versus ‘Zurdo’ [Ramirez] so that’s going to be exciting. I’m working on Jaime Munguia. Another one. Jaime Munguia wants to fight [Jermall] Charlo.

“Again, Al Haymon, you know. And it’s sad, because — it’s sad — I’m sure Charlo wants to fight the very best. All these fighters want to fight the best, man, but this is the truth, God honest truth.”

So there you have it. One of the most powerful figures in pro boxing Oscar De La Hoya has fingered Al Haymon as the one guilty entity who is once again and still blocking the best fights from happening.

Haymon is also preventing Errol Spence from fighting Terence Crawford and he’s also steering Deontay Wilder from a showdown with Anthony Joshua. However, Haymon is offering his useless, valueless pawn Luis Ortiz as an opponent for Joshua – which would be a long shot attempt to use Ortiz to try to cancel out Joshua as a future opponent for Wilder. Haymon clearly intends to keep Wilder in house vs only PBC hired patsies like Ruiz, Kownacki, Helenius, etc.
