The Good, The Bad, The Ugly This Weekend In Boxing

By Scoop Malinowski

The Good:  Janibek Alimkhanuly is the most spectacular fighter in boxing today. He made Stephen Butler look like a novice on Saturday night. Alimkhanuly is a devastating fighter who ends careers. He was so lethal in disposing Butler that now, sadly, it’s guaranteed NONE of the big American names will ever go near him. Canelo, Charlo, Andrade etc. will duck/mayweather Alimkhanuly forever. This is modern boxing where the true best get ducked by the counterfeit pretender best. The only solution is to boycott all the rubbish set ups, particularly from Al Haymon and his PBC scheme scam operation.

The Bad & Ugly:  Former zero draw Ismael Barroso, 40 years old from Venezuela, was beating Rolly Romero but during an even, heated exchange in round 9, referee Tony Weeks suddenly aborted the fight and awarded the fake win to Romero. Barroso will now get another payday as a sympathetic figure with a growing fan base.  Romero, trying to do damage control, says Barroso punches a million times harder than Tank Davis, who he lost to by stoppage (or more likely took a dive for).

Larry Merchant once said about fifteen years ago “boxing is the theater of the unexpected.”  That maxim has changed. Boxing is now the theater of the absurd.

Meanwhile Errol Spence is telling us negotiations with Terence Crawford are moving along favorably, without sharing any details. But one has to wonder: Is the Haymon Spence side, after about nine months of failure, finally giving Crawford an offer too great he can’t refuse?  And that’s not presuming the fight would even remotely be on the level.

In other news Tyson Fury, the WBC belt wearing pretender who ducked world heavyweight title unification with Usyk, is still in hiding trying to figure out who his next handpicked patsy will be to steal more millions from boxing fans.
